T-MobileG1 Software Update…Already?

It seems like the lucky many who have taken ownership of the T-Mobile G1 yesterday will be getting a special surprise, namely the first over-the-air software update for the phone.

As with most early patches, it is only providing ‘enhancements’ as opposed to straight up bug fixing, kudos to the powers that be for such a swift remedy.

From the main screen, go to Menu > Settings > About phone > Build number.  Look for where it says RC##  If yours says RC19, then you are so last season, as the newest version is RC28.

Don’t know what I’m talking about? Then you, like me, have no G1.

First T-Mobile G1 Advert: “Questions, Questions…”

Uh-oh. The first T-Mobile G1 Ad is a little bit “quirky”. Not sure if I like it. Needs more of a fanfare, not a “this isn’t an iPhone, but try it and you might like it!” feel.

Anyway, have a look.

The T-Mobile G1 Is OUT NOW (in the United States)!!!

After much hype and anticipation, the T-Mobile G1 has finally been released throughout the United States.

Whether online of from the comfort of their local stores, people across America have been catching a peek at the newest handset on the block, with Google’s exciting new Android operating system looking after the user experience.

So…is it any good? Will it change the world?

This video shows the build-up and eventual winners in the G1 Game of Life!

Christopher Laddish was number one in the queue, after waiting for almost 7 hours. Not that much compared to some of the iPhone utters, but a good effort nonetheless.

Well…this slightly calmer and more considered video shows you what will be in the box, and how it matches up size wise with the usual suspects!

Not long till the UK gets to taste the G1 loveliness too…

Could The HTC Touch HD Become T-Mobile G2?

Lots and lots and lots of rumours abound today, stating that the HTC Touch HD coul be given an Android makeover to become the second handheld device to run the revolutionary platform.

Makes sense, given as it is pretty amazing phone based on some reviews on the internet, and has the specs and slickness to genuinely be called an iPhone killer.

PhoneDog has two independent sources, both of whom have given up this rumour about the HTC Touch HD being a possible suitor…let’s hope it’s true!

You will too once you see this HTC Touch HD video…

1.5 Million T-Mobile G1 Pre-Orders!

With the launch of the handset over a week away, T-Mobile and Google must be all champagne and high-fives upon hearing that they have already managed pre-order sales to the tune of 1.5 million!

Despite the lack of a proven track record for both Google and their Android operating system, people are clamouring to get a hold of the touchscreen/typing wondermachine!

The hype machine has continued unabated, with those in the know spreading info about the device by word of mouth, rather than the blanket TV ads and “infinite money cheat=ON” method used by Apple with the iPhone.

T-Mobile are certainly ready for the influx of customers on Oct. 22nd, as they are rumoured to have in an extra 2 million handsets to cater for demand.

Must be good to know you’re onto a sure thing, so far before it’s even in the shops!

First T-Mobile G1 Review!!!

This guy is SO lucky, be Android Community forum member kaziko is doing the honourable thing and letting everyone share in his G1 joy by posting up a comprehensive review of the good and bad things regarding the first Android Phone!

The first Q&A went up, and he covered things like multi-touch, coverage areas, and the pros and cons of the device. Best things included a quick start up, lightweight frame, and the Android Market being up and running already with plenty of good apps.

The worst? No touchscreen keyboard, it isn’t quite as smooth running as one would like, and it crashes quite frequently.

Check out the detailed thread here, it’s getting pretty big now!

Zoom Into Google Maps On Android!

The official Google mobile blog is an excellent place to keep abreast of stuff going on in the world of Android and the T-Mobile G1!

Their latest update is concerned with the new Google Maps functionality, which goes far beyond the version the iPhone currently offers with panning around vistas at street level using the accelerometer, and shows public transportation routes. It’s pretty awesome!

Check out the Google Maps video here.

Want a T-Mobile G1? Then Get In Line!

The popularity of the T-Mobile G1 has been well documented, but even the most eager of beavers have been getting some bad news regarding pre-orders in the US…

For customers who pre-ordered before October 3rd, they still may get their shiny new Google Phone on the launch date of the 22nd of October. Any later? You will get the G1 on November 11th. At the earliest.

Which means that queueing up outside your local shop and taking your chances is far more likely to earn you a G1 on launch day (or even launch month) than sitting at home twiddling your thumbs waiting for your pre-order to be delivered.

Sounds like any UK G1 fans would do well to start lining up now, but get behind me, I’m first!

“Yes, We Have No G1s.”

The T-Mobile G1 has proved super successful in the past few weeks, with pre-orders in the stores indicating potential Xmas sales of over 500,000. T-Mobile are understandably very happy!

A spokesman said: “Given the great anticipation and the heavy pre-sale demand for the T-Mobile G1 with Google, we nearly tripled the number of phones initially available for delivery on our October 22 launch date, and have sold through them all.”

However, with the online registration method, there is still hope for the rest of us in getting one! Well, there would be if we lived in the US. Which we don’t.
