Forget the G1, Russians Already Enjoying The G7!

Didn’t take long for other companies to trade off the T-Mobile G1’s name, and that is why we now have the G7.

A recent reveal from Russian manufacturer RoverPC, the G7 doesn’t even have the courtesy to run on Android, instead using Windows Mobile 6.1 to do things.

Naturally, the G1 G7 has a touchscreen interface, with quad band GSM, 3G and Wi-Fi support. Under the hood is 256MB of storage which can be expanded via the microSD slot, as well as a 3 megapixel camera and a second for video chat.

The big feature on the handset is GPS functionality which verges on the useful for the first time, with speed camera downloads and traffic jam alert information.

The G7 is due to ship in Russia in December, at a cost of around $616.

Not quite six better than a G1 though, is it?

T-Mobile G1 Browser In Yahoo Hijack?

Despite the Google boffins working around the clock to plug all the holes in the G1’s security, (including the brilliant ‘hacker’ bug) there seems to be other forces working equally hard to mess it up!

Some T-Mobile G1 owners are having problems when they go to Yahoo’s site, with them being swiftly redirected to a page where they are asked to download a Microsoft (?) security fix. Whether this is on purpose, or a hacker accident which G1 owners have been lucky enough to get caught up in is unclear.

One thing remains…how will you get to the number ONE T-Mobile G1 news site (on Yahoo) if this nightmare persists! Get it fixed Google!

T-Mobile G1 / Android auto-rotate screen fix now available, but not from T-Mobile…

Apparently this much needed addition of auto rotate-y goodness for your T-Mobile G1 based on screen aspect is inbuilt to the new Android SDK, but has been kept under lock and key until they deem fit to release it.

However, if you can’t wait for the powers that be to grant it to you, DroidSans has a auto rotate/G1 tweaks and tips guide explaining how to get it up and running.

Be warned, the process is a ‘hot’ on the Nando’s scale of difficulty, so if you aren’t used to poking around in your G1’s guts quite yet, take your time and stay safe!
