Don’t Text And Drive With Textecution Android App

picture-1

Text messaging whilst driving is becoming a real problem amongst teen drivers in the US, enough that new Android app Textecution will stop them dead in their tracks! Poor choice of words, but you get what I mean…

It uses the G1’s internal GPS gubbins to tell whether you are moving faster than 10mph, if so then it stops the phone’s texting functionality completely!

In order to make an exception to the rule, then an ‘admin’ number needs to be called – probably mum and dad – to get rid of it.

Their heart is in the right place, but it won’t work for a few simple reasons…

1) If your child is old enough to pilot several tonnes of hurtling metal, one hopes they would have the aptitude to use their G1. And find the ‘delete app’ button next to Textecution. You could operate on a system of trust, but these are teenagers. It is in their DNA to lie.

2) What about when you are merely a passenger in a car? How will it know you are in a train? Admin calls to your parents every five minutes will get really old, really fast. And may I redirect you to point 1? They will lie, get the phones unblocked by admin, and text themselves silly!

3) GPS running? All the time? Good luck with that. They won’t be able to text, not because of Textecution, but because the battery is dead.

4) It costs $9.95. Who’s going to buy it? You will have to take you teen’s phone away from them, set it and return it. If it takes longer than 3 seconds, your child will probably explode from a lack of LOLling.

I only passed my driving test in February (fourth time lucky!), and I find it hard enough to drive whilst listening to anything with a BPM of over 50, let alone one handed QWERTY G1 texting! Those teens will find a thousand other distractions whilst driving if you prevent them from sending messages on the move. Trust me.

T-Mobile G2 Coming In January, Android Cupcake Saving Itself For It?

You heard about that fancy new Cupcake firmware? Apparently not all the swanky features are going to be shoehorned into the humble G1.

No surprises there. The handset is a little lacking in terms of upgradable parts, but all these rumours of a G2 as early as January? Don’t bank on it. To have such a massive lead time developing the G1, then launch a sequel less than 5 months later? Sounds like falsehood.

That being said, the onslaught of Android mobiles in 2009 will absolutely drown T-Mobile’s unique selling point, so why not try to get another competitive handset out there?

Either way, the stuff that Cupcake will turbocharge make whichever Android handsets are coming very exciting prospects…
