T-Mobile G1 Android Update ‘Cupcake’ Now Expected At END Of January…

Cake mess

Yeah, we’re as gutted as you are…

The biggest update to the T-Mobile G1 since release has been offering an on-screen keyboard and all manner of performance improvements (even video recording maybe?).

Understandably, when the RC31 update (nicknmaed ‘Cupcake’) was rumoured to be out by mid-January, we lost our collective minds!

Now, official Cupcake rumour-mill Coogle and Blog say that it will be out by the end of January, albeit with a few new insider-delivered FACTS attached:

FACT – There WILL be a G1 update shortly as it was INTENDED to be by mid-January so the next target is now by the end of January.

FACT – T-Mobile will not just provide Cupcake elements to the G2 and leave the G1 behind.

FACT – The next update will be called RC31 and include Cupcake elements.

FACT – The mass of calls lately for Cupcake is registering and causing T-Mobile to double their efforts in getting the update out.

FACT – NO ONE has received RC31 as of today.

FACT – When the update is released it will be done in stages “Over The Air” but it will be by region not when you purchased the G1.

FACT – The memo I was privy to is NOT distributed to Support personnel.

FACT – T-Mobile Specialists & Support are LAST to know when an update happens and are notified AFTER it is released as was the case with RC29 & RC30.

FACT – T-Mobile does have a battery improvement program in motion

FACT – T-Mobile’s plan for battery improvement will be one of OR a combination of efficiencies in an OTA update and an extended life battery replacement.

Until I am tapping out a text on the G1’s touchscreen myself, I’ll take all future Cupcake mutterings with a side order of salt. Also, the word ‘fact’ looks a bit stupid when you read it so many times…

Thanks for the info — this is definitely the best and most comprehensive set of “Cupcake” information I’ve found on the net so far.

With it…I will be more patient until the update arrives.

Wow….when are you going to catch on that google and blog is bogus….they have no facts what so ever..they also are going off of other web rumors….anyways whenever you do get the next update, I will tell you this, only 1% of you are going to be happy with it….all these “rumors” that say flash, stereo bluetooth ect….is all bs at the moment and will not be in the next update….the only thing your going to get so far is the on screen keyboard other then that its just a bunch of GUI patches and fixes…well I guess you all can keep google and blog booming in the traffic department why they sit back and laugh at you all.

  • Ernest says:

We know that most of their stuff is unsubstantiated, but as G1 fans we have to live in hope that one day…we WILL get our dessert-based update!

Well I guess this phone (g1) is actually the dream because ever since I have heard of this new update that is rumored to be out by early jan than mid jan now end of jan all I have been doin is dreamin of it and starting to get false expectations of android I mean don’t get me wrong I love my g1 and the functunalities that it has way more than iphone but what bothers me is the programs or updates that are aledge to come out but never seem to have a specific release date like flash I’m mean we saw the demo on adobe max that flash was runinnin on the g1 and it has been at least 2 3 months now and still no flash I would expect a beta version at least I know it is not easy to create programs but if you have a groupe of developers working on a program it shouldn’t take that long for it to be released or have a specific release date I guess all I ask is that adobe and goo stop leaving us with (dreams) and starving (cupcake ) if my mom offers me a cupcake I don’t expect to get it 2 4 months later I expect it as soon as it is out the oven I don’t care if its a little hot lol

This is b.s. they are f.o.s. I should of stuck to my original plan and got the blackberry storm. If tmobile wasn’t ready to compete they should fell back and waited to sell it. Now there’s a g2 coming out…..that should of been the g1…hence, they are full of crap and they need to get off that bull frog..lol

  • reese says:

Hey pissed I’m with you on that one I still ain’t heard shit about a flash player I know the g2 better not have one if the g1 don’t get it 1st. T mobile just cheated everyone when they said u can watch videos rite from your phone that was complete bullshit just a way to get some money and they did a good ass job.

Good work! Thank you very much!
I always wanted to write in my blog something like that. Can I take part of your post to my site?
Of course, I will add backlink?

    Sincerely, Timur Alhimenkov

  • Ernest says:

Uh…okay? Just add the backlinky Timur!

Well, thanks for the info. I guess Android’s blessing and curse is that with an open source code, applications can be developed, and the system will continually improve. Unfortunately, it sort of feels like the g1 was released as a “beta” application, with a lot of holes to be filled by said third-party programmers. “O.K., here it is… now you guys make it work!” If T-mobile leaves all the G1 purchasers behind, and releases patches only as part of the G2, I will really feel jooked. I love Jookie! Please don’t do it, guys. O.K., guys?

  • shaggy says:

Ha, its feb. 4th 2009. From the 5th to the 15th u should be receiving a update called RC33. We all know t-mobile sucks as far as getting their shit taken care of. Don’t worry, RC33 is no cupcake, so ur still gonna have to wait.
