T-Mobile G1 Europe Release Dates Announced

In my infinite selfishness, I forgot that the T-Mobile G1 still hadn’t been released in loads of other European countries! T-Mobile’s CEO Hamid Akhavan made an announcement regarding the rollout across Europe in ‘09 this morning:

“We will introduce the G1 by January 30th in the Netherlands, Czech Republic and Austria, with Germany on February 2nd and in Poland later that month.”

Akhavan neglected to mention specific numbers but insisted the T-Mobile G1 was the most successful phone ever sold in the United States. Wow, really? “We have sold several hundred thousand phones. Sales have clearly exceeded our expectations,” Akhavan said.

Interestingly, the German release will allow consumers to get the G1 for a mere 1 euro (90p) under a two-year contract with T-Mobile. Sounds like all that waiting will be worth it for the rest of Europe! Wonder if the Cupcake update will be out by then…
