T-Mobile G1 Is No More!

android-g1

Those new to Android might not realise it, but the Nexus One wasn’t the first Google-branded phone, that honour actually goes to the T-Mobile G1. So, it is with slightly misty eyes that we reveal T-Mobile have discontinued this landmark handset.

The G1 was the first mobile to feature Google’s exciting new operating system and the HTC manufactureed device set the pattern for future handsets, paving the way for later handsets such as the Milestone, Nexus One, HTC Desire and most recently the Samsung Galaxy S.

The build quality was slightly plasticy, but for its time, the G1 packed some decent specs: it had a 512Mhz processor, 192MD RAM and an excellent physical QWERTY keyboard which has proved hard to beat. Indeed, the idiosyncratic slide-out design made it a hit with anyone looking for a handset to set them apart from the pack.

Unfortunately, despite being capable in its time, it seems that the G1 couldn’t keep up with the slew of super powerful Android devices that followed and they didn’t follow in the 2.0 and beyond OS updates.

So, farewell, G1!

A great little idea from Android And Me, some awesome Android-themed wallpapers for your favourite Google phones! Some spooky Halloween efforts, from bats to ghosts!

Download the Halloween Android wallpapers from here!

They should be compatible with whichever Android phone you have from the HTC Magic to the original G1, although the resolution may be wrong for the new HTC Tattoo

Simply save them to your PC or Mac, and transfer them over to the handset’s memory stick. Simples!

How To Upload Music To The T-Mobile G1 Android Phone!

The T-Mobile G1 Google phone has a pretty great music player, and the Marketplace has quite a good selection of downloadable video players to sort out the mobile movie watching side of things, but how exactly do you put them on there without some kind of iTunes-y saviour?

Well, it’s a lot easier than you might think, and thanks to me, you too will know how!

1. Connect your Googleicious G1 to the computer via a miniUSB cable.

2. You will see it come up with something along the lines of ‘Android Device attached.’ This is a good thing.

3. Open up ‘My Computer’ and the G1 will be listed here as a removable disk (hopefully). This is the microSD which is inside the G1, and ripe to have some music moved to it!

4. Check on the handset’s ‘Notifications’ pulldown tab from the top of the screen. There should be one new note saying ‘mount USB’ or something along those lines. Do it and then the PC can talk to the G1 properly.

4. Create a folder named ‘Music’ and another named ‘Movies’ for, you guessed it, music and movies!

5. Drag and drop your fave tunes and mp4 encoded movies into the respective folders, and you should be fine!
